The Chakras

Nature gave some or other form of defence to every living thing on this earth, you can take the smallest creature or the largest one, and you will find that every animal is equipped with the required Intelligence quotient(IQ) and Emotional Quotient(EQ) to fend for itself in this ever competitive earth plane, particularly those animals which are part of the food chain, even a small snail is having excellent IQ and EQ, and all these animals use these features 24/7.

One animal i.e. Human being (Homo Sapiens Sapiens) is the only living thing which is given the capacity to play GOD, but unfortunately, he/she is lost in his/her own world, human being had created his/her own world, where he/she can play god without any interference from the nature, but is it possible, human being is placed on top of every food chain and every animal kingdom by nature, it is the only creature which has spiritual capacity or ability to connect with god or nature, but again it is hidden from him for most part of his/her life and he/she is unaware of this power hidden within himself/herself, few lucky one's get a clue from the nature or some Guru, one has to realize this energy, but once this power is realized, it can be used in a very positive way for the benefit of the individual and also the society, but I think the modern society is not yet ready for this kind of energized humans, unfortunately some call them Mutants, instead of calling them evolved Humans, so this knowledge had remained locked in deep psyche of mystics in India and elsewhere, only few could talk openly, like Swami Sivananda Ji Maharaj.

The modern(material) world is kind of dog eat dog world, everyone had to kiss some one else's shoe, no one is free from this vicious cycle, and very funny thing is, it is taught as a skill by all, liked by all, and propagated by all with out remorse or shame, in a way every one waits for their turn to sit on the top where others would kiss his/her shoe, and this is the ultimate dream almost every human in this modern world has, be it India or any Western country, it does not stop, and most of them feel very proud and blessed by kissing other's shoe, if this is done not for material gain or fame or fortune or to share public funds, then it is a very beautiful virtue, but unfortunately it is done to appease the guy on the top, because many are not even getting that chance, they have to wait before they get anywhere in the line. this is performed without any guilt or shame and is executed by skills developed and acquired by human beings in their own picture, and proudly we all call them as people skills, and if anyone lacks this tendency, he/she is directed towards psychologists for rectification.

But if you come out of this Man made Picture and try to connect with the larger picture, where the majority part of nature is in play, you will find this people skills of almost no use, we humans are given with such a beautiful advantage over remaining entities of the nature, it is like nature had awarded us with its duties, to play nature, but we have completely forgotten that we are part of this nature, instead we are so busy creating our own picture, which has no place for any other animal, except in Zoological parks, few of them have gone little ahead, they want to create a picture where there is no place for anyone who does not look like them, or are not similar to them physically.

Let us see what nature had given us:

First thing that comes to any one's mind is Brain, then it's ability to use natural resources, ability to create artificial appendages, and of course using all these we have created our own picture, in which we do not allow any other living thing to move freely. Many humans believe that we do not have any instinct, or ability to grasp the changes in nature way in advance, like most animals do, and many humans do not accept the fact that there is a force which guards this earth and maintains a balance, they think this earth and its resources are meant for their use only, few have gone little further, these advanced humans think that the resources of this earth belong only to their tribe and no one else. they have completely forgotten that every human or for that matter every living thing on this earth has a role to play and has a equal right to share the available resources.

If a human is seen in the larger canvas i.e. Nature, it has an advantage of highly developed upright spine and an excellent balancing instrument to keep it in balance on two feet's, no other animal can actually match this ability, the upright spine is connected to a very advanced and recent brain, this brain had already shown its wonders, but still it is in his/her own world, this achievement is minusculewhen you see the time and size of universe, had we used our other hidden features, may be we could have achieved many folds than this, but for this we have to stick to the main picture i.e. nature, which would also mean we have to respect every living thing on this earth plane for its space and resources.

What are these hidden features, well if you see the animals, they live and survive only because they are in danger almost 24/7, so their senses are maintained and updated to the best and kept recent, but in case of humans this department suffers like it is infected withperennial cold, many of us can't even hear properly not because we lack the ability but because we are so much lost in our picture that we do not have time to look around, or to check if any dangers are lurking around, so the end result is we get killed like vegetables, the senses are used for entertainment and other requirements for maintaining or creating our own picture.

The next thing is our mind, which has the capacity to interact with the nature not for mere survival but for maintaining it, but we have turned our mind in a uncontrollable, most spoiled brat and we have pampered this brat so much that it does not listen to us any more, instead we listen to it, mind needs same attention as a kid needs to grow up in to a mature and responsible individual, many adults are soobsessed satisfying this spoiled brat that they do not have time to even think about nature, so, physically they might have counted 60 winters but mentally the mind remains a spoiled child, how to control this brat and keep it in your control, I have given a brief description in Mysticism Part -I, once your mind is in control and it is no longer a brat, but it is a empty container where only one thing resonates or echo's, Aum...Aum...Aum.

Let us see what else the nature has given us, the Upanishads mention about the nadi's, nadi's are subtle channels through which the prana or the life force flows, there are total of 72,000 nadi's and out of main 14 nadi's, three are most important, Shushmana, Ida and Pingala, the main nadi is called Shushmana nadi, it connects the Brahmadvara with the Brahmarandhra, where lord Shiva resides in his abode, deep in meditation, unconcerned, un-manifested, this nadi is a secret tunnel connected to the master of this nature, next to this is two secondary nadi's Pingala and Ida, Pingala connects the right nostril with the Muladhara chakra, and Ida nadi connects the left nostril with the Muladhara chakra, so the three Nadi's Shushmana, Pingala, and Ida unite at two points, one at the Muladhara chakra, the point is called Yukta Triveni (Trois Riviere), Shakti resides here, the sole cause for all creation, this place is between the Anus and the sexual organs, in males it is a clear flat area, but in females it is occupied by female Yoni, this is the place where the energy is hidden, it lie's there like a coiled three and half circles around the Swayambu linga at the base of the spine i.e. the kundalini, the serpentine power or energy and it closes the Brahmadvara with its head and holds its tail in its mouth, it remains dormant, un-manifested, this is the status of unawakened kundalini energy, to awaken it, one has to practice Pranayama and Kundalini Yoga regularly.

The three nadi's unite behind the bridge between the two eyes, near the third eye, the Ajna chakra, also called as Mukta Triveni (Trois Riviere) after this point only Shushmana nadi travels upwards up to the Shasrara chakra.

What are we doing with this energy?, this is nothing but your sexual energy, this sexual energy can be used at two levels, one at the physical level and the second one is at the Astral level.

If this energy is used physically, the primary purpose is it helps in reproduction, but most humans are neck deep in its secondary purpose, i.e. pleasure, this in fact gives you pleasure, if indulged regularly, it causes exhaustion, and a lot of food is necessary to convert the blood into this energy, in males it is seminal fluid and in women it is vaginal fluid, it is like a tap, if left open, it would run till the tanks are empty, then again it is vicious, it does not end. but if human being turns off this tap and try to retain the energy, this is the third and most important purpose, to elevate this energy to the higher levels in the Astral plane through various Chakras, after some time, if there is no outward direction for this fluid, it is processed back into the blood stream and is directed into the shushmana nadi, but as this section is also connected to the other two nadi's Pingala and Ida, the redirected energy is bound to flow in them also.

The problem starts here, imagine that a human had lived a normal family life for 40 -50 years and then this process is initiated, his nadi's will be like a clogged sewage line, it would need a great deal to clean them up, but in the same situation if the native had practiced celibacy since his youthful years, which a foundation for longevity, the nadi's will be much more cleaner, but both ways the nadi's will have to be cleaned of all the junk through your only upward outlet, i.e. your nose, because this is the only other point where all the three nadi's unite, for some time people involved in this process will experience uncomfortable secretions through their noses and it needs to be cleaned very regularly, the native might also experience various types of aroma flowing through his nose, but after some time once everything is out, the nadi's are clean and empty from bottom to top, the breath will be very relaxing and huge, the oxygen content will drastically increase, the aroma of the breath will be very comfortable, cold infections will be almost negligible, probably this is the reason, why Sigmund Freud had suggested that if you manipulate this part of the nostril the flow is redirected towards the sexual side and the human will have more sexual libido, and he underwent some surgical procedure, but I think he missed one point here, that is, once the flow is directed upwards, it no longer remains sexual, to increase the sexual libido, one has to keep the tap open and condition his/her mind focused on some fantasy.

Now that we know that the body has nadi's, which channel the energy, but the ultimate purpose is to send it upwards towards the Brahmarandhra, towards Sahasrara chakra present at the tip of the head, but it is not possible to send it like water through a pipe, the Kundalini energy needs to be tuned in to this direction by tuning it through various chakras present between the base of the spine and the tip of the head. one very important point is if someone tries to cut open a human body and tries to find these chakras, they will not find them as these are present in the ethereal body or the Astral body, these are subtle, ethereal psychic energy centres.

Swami Sivananda maharaj said if the Kundalini energy reaches the Sahasrara chakra, no doubt it is a great feat in itself but the most important thing is to sustain it there, to keep it in that position and it is not possible with out the help of other chakras. Fig C2 shows various chakras and their positions.

  1. Muladhara chakra, 1st chakra or the base chakra present near the base of spine.
  2. Svadhisthana chakra, 2nd chakra is present between the navel and the Muladhara chakra.
  3. Manipuri chakra, 3rd chakra is present near the navel.
  4. Anahata chakra, 4th chakra is present near the base of the sternum, or near the heart.
  5. Vishuddha chakra, 5th chakra,is present in the throat, near the thyroid glands.
  6. Ajna chakra, 6th chakra is present near the peneal gland, the third eye.
  7. Sahasrara chakra is present as a 1000 petals lotus hanging downwards from the Brahmarandhra.
Between Ajna chakra and Shasrara chakra, there are two minor chakras, Manas chakra and Soma chakra. the time and efforts needed to reach the Ajna chakra from Muladhara chakra is at one level and the time and efforts needed to reach the Shasrara chakra from Ajna chakra is at a different level and is more difficult to sustain, but once the native acheives this, Swami Sivananda maharaj says , the native is blessed with all the divine powers, all Shiddhis and Riddhis( minor powers) roll under his feet, he can command the nature, he can command the five elements, his glory is indescribable. Fig C1- Awakened kundalini power and the subtle awakened auras of the various chakras.

I will cover each Chakra in detail with my own drawings, I have tried to de-mystify the drawings and have shown them as mere physical apertures or wheels of aura, but in reality they are subtle, ethereal, fine psychic energy currents, present in the astral body.

Muladhara Chakra ( Base Chakra)

Aum Shri Gurave NamaH!

In my Previous post, Chakras, I have given the general account about these beautiful, subtle, invisible, non material, nerve centres or energy centres present in the Astral body of each and every human being, One can visualize like a key chain with three leaves cut like a human body, one is your physical body which is visible and second is the Astral body and the thrid is called the causal body, pull them together it is one body, separate them you will feel three.Fig C1, Shows various Chakras and their positions in the Astral body.

Fig C2 shows various Chakra's and their positions. Awakened State

I have tried to show in a way that what happens to these energy centers when they get activated or opened and when the Kundalini Energy is sustained in them, an ordinary Human being once achieves this feat his/her Astral Self would expand and be a part of the whole universe, Like Microcosm in Macrocosm and Macrocosm in microcosm, I am playing with words here. basically what I want to say is that till that point the Human conscious is limited up to his body and his limited surrounding and happenings, but once he/she crosses this line and he/she connects with everything that was unreal for him/her, but actually he connects with the reality.

Fig C3: The first and foremost Chakra or the Base Chakra is Muladhara Chakra.

Mula meaning the Base, it is a 4 petal lotus like Chakra, with the Brahmdvara in its center, where the "Shakti" resides, and this Brahmdvara remains closed by the head of the Kundalani, the Serpentine power, it lays there inactive in three 1/2 coils. this point lies exactly near the end of the spine in the flat area between the Anus and the Testicles of a Human male.
this area is called "Kanda".

The Mandala is Earth
The Zodiac sign is Taurus
The Mantra is Lamn or Lang (लँ ) Pronounce it as
LAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaMmmmmmmNnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn it should sink in to the silence of Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
The Endocrine Gland is Prostate, Adrenal. The no of Petals are 4- Parmananda, Yogananda, Virananda and SamajanadaThe Linga positioned here is Swamyambu (Meaning self created)The Vayu or Air here is called Kandarpu VayuThe color of this Chakra is Crimson RedThe area of Knowledge is Unconscious. The Energy is called Kundalini, Dakini Shakti, or just Shakti. The Deity for this Chakra is Lord Ganesha. The Randhra or opening is Brahma Randhra, and Brahma resides here.
The Purpose of this yoga is to activate the Kundalini (Sanskrit meaning, to lye on the ground in a 3 1/2 circles) to reach the top Chakra, Shasrara Chakra, where Lord Shiva resides, so basically it is spiritual mating of Shakti (Female) with Shiva (Male).

The Chakra is related with, ability to live as a human being, ability to survive in this world, since every one comes here alone and helpless, the lucky ones then get introduced to the Parents, so this Chakra remains open and active and functioning in an infant, because it gives the energy and push to live, survive and learn, if this trait is kept in an continuous flow, the Chakra is bound to remain open through his/her life, but this trait stops and it happens with the majority, because they depend a lot on their parents and go through a phase where they get immense security, protection and stability, as a person starts to gain independence the Chakra opens and vibrates to extend the required energy to allow the person stand on his/her feet, so in a way all those people who live a independent life, earn, raise a family, support their kids this Chakra is open in a very physical sense, but it has Spiritual side also which is more important, which connects the physical side with the inner spiritual life. It is like a priest who worships daily with heart connected elsewhere so would lack divine connection, or it is like a telephone which is good and the carbon vibrators are good, but it is not connected to any telephone company, once connected to the divine energy the psychic energies manifest, and this is not possible with out the help of the eternal energy or superior energy or simply GOD.

To activate this Chakra there are many ways, to tune, make the physical body flexible one can do, Shirs Asan, i.e. Fig C4A, SarvangAsan, Fig C4 B,  and Hal   Asan Fig C4C

,

This Asan is Sukha Asan, which is simple Siddhasana, the actual Siddhasana requires one to keep the ankle of one leg close to the anus and the ankle of the other leg resting on it, or just crossing it like in a sukha Asan, like I have tried to show in my drawings. The name Siddha itself suggests that this Asan is for the purpose of realizing Siddhis or Spiritual Powers.

This is the actual purpose of this Yoga to connect spiritually with the divine, to activate the Kundalini Energy and push it towards the 7th Chakra, Shasrara Chakra, and again please note, do not put physical efforts here, because it is not physical entity, once GOD extends his grace, things manifest automatically, so one needs to wait for that god's grace to shower upon you, I know it sounds very disheartening, but it is like this, had it been a physical thing, everyone would have been a Psychic, but reality tells us it is not, few very lucky people based on their past Karma, take birth with this Chakras open and functional and they have this Psychic powers etc, like by birth, but dear folks for the majority population, one will have to sweat it out.

You need to see more how? go to www.bandhayoga.com keys_access2.html, this site infact shows all the anatomical side of this yoga, it is good to see them, then go to www.kundaliniyoga.org/index.html, it seems Shri Guru Bhajan brought this Kundalini Yoga to the West in 1969, but it appears his touch is mostly based on Sikh religion, well the purpose is same, then go to this interesting site of Mr Anmol Mehta (US based) he is extending free Online Kundalini Yoga lessons, www.anmolmehta.com/, here you can watch him in his free videos actually do the Pranayama and other Asans and warming excercise's.

This is one way, like to reach GOD, one can follow any religion, Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, Hebrew, Buddhism, Jainism, etc etc. but the purpose is one, to realize the almighty, likewise whether it is Jnana Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Raja Yoga, or Bhakti Yoga, purpose is one to activate this energy so that one can experience the spiritual connection. Please try to understand this unless until you experience it yourself, you will never understand, no matter how many people show you or write millions and millions of words to explain it, it is a very personal experience.

Like I remember the first time when someone got married in our group, everyone was curious to know how it was to make love, but the fellow who got married would not talk about it, obviously he wanted to keep it personal, he would just say, it is not for you children, though he was our age. so it is exactly like it.
Now here one needs to have lots of patience, because first you will have to stabilize the Bija Mantra for the first Chakra, which is Lang (लँ )and please take note that this is a vibration so start slowly and take time to sink in to the nnnnnnn part of the Mantra.

There are four more Akshara Mantra for the four petals of the Chakra, see the Fig C3, I would suggest everyone interested to learn the Alphabets of Devanagari (Hindi or Sanskrit) then it would become very easy to chant these Mantras, otherwise you will get stuck with the pronunciation of the Alphabets, then the correct way to say them and then chant the Mantra in a Mala.

Swami Sivananda says:

The MULADHARA CHAKRA is situated between the root of the reproductive organ and the anus at the base of the spinal column. It is here, as I have already mentioned, that the two Nadis, Ida and Pingala, meet the Sushumna. The Muladhara Chakra is two fingers above the anus and two fingers below the genitals and four fingers in width. It has four petals of crimson hue. In the pericarp of this Chakra there is a beautiful triangle in which the sleeping Kundalini of the form of a coiled-up serpent dwells. She holds her tail in her mouth and covers the mouth of the Brahma-dvara (the gateway to the Seat of Brahman) with her head. The Yogi who concentrates on the Muladhara Chakra gets full knowledge of the Kundalini and the various means to rouse it to action. As soon as the Kundalini is roused, the Yogi gets the power to rise up above the ground. He gets full control over his breath, mind and semen. His Prana flows through the Sushumna and all his sins aredestroyed. He gets knowledge of the past, present and future. He is immensely happy.
The drawing of the Chakra, lot of people have tried to draw with all that mystic colors and curves and things like that, I have tried to keep it simple as per Swami Sivananda Maharaj's explanation.

Basically every time you explain anything it comes to the bottom line, the Mind, Body and Soul in tandem and all this package connected with the Purusha.

And please if you find any spelling mistakes, bear with it, the "ABC" icon in the menu sometimes it works and mostly it remain dormant like the Kundalini Serpentine power.

Shasrara Chakra

In my Previous posts, I have given the general account about these beautiful, subtle, invisible, non material, nerve centres or energy centres present in the Astral body of each and every human being, One can visualize the Astral body like a key chain with three leaves cut out like a human body, one is your physical body which is visible and second is the Astral body and the third is called the causal body, pull them together it is one body, separate them you can see three.
The Seventh and Crown Chakra, the Shasrara Chakra Fig A

Imagine this Chakra as a cap which covers the Brahma randhra, the soft spot on the head of the new born babies, slowly this area gets covered by growth of bones of head, when elders kiss this spot of children, both are blessed.

The awakened Chakra has its petals upwards and the petals of a chakra at rest are downwards. Only Sushumna Nadi reaches this Chakra.
The Zodiac sign is Capricorn/Pisces.
The Mantra is AUM, Pronounce it as Ooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaammmmmmmm.
The Endocrine Glands connected is Pineal gland, melatonin -photoreceptors,The no of Petals are 1000, which are 1000 yoga nadis which appear like petals and each petal vibrates with the sound of alphabets of Sanskrit, 50 letters are repeated till they finish all the 1000 petals. The space in this chakra is Round, The color of this Chakra is white. The area of Knowledge is Super-Conscious.The Deity for this Chakra is Shiva, Lord Shiva resides here and Shakti has to reach him and Shakti is Kundalini Shakti. The Loka is Satya Loka.
Swami Sivananda Maharaj Said:
The SAHASRARA CHAKRA is the thousand-petalled lotus at the top of the head and is theAbode of Lord Siva. When the Kundalini is awakened, it pierces one Chakra after another andfinally unites with Lord Siva and enjoys the Highest Bliss. Now the Yogi attains super conscious state and becomes a full-blown Jnani. He drinks the Nectar of Immortality. When the Kundalini is awakened, it does not directly proceed all at once to the SahasraraChakra. You will have to take it from one Chakra to another. You will certainly live even after it is taken to the Sahasrara. But remember that even after it is taken to the Sahasrara, it may drop down to the Muladhara at any moment! Only when you are firmly established in Samadhi, when you have attained Kaivalya, the
Kundalini cannot and does not drop down.

Do your Sadhana with patience, perseverance, cheerfulness and courage, till you get
the Nirvikalpa Samadhi.

It is easy to awaken the Kundalini, but it is very difficult to take it up to the navel, to the AjnaChakra, and thence to the Sahasrara in the head. It demands a great deal of patience and persistence on the part of the practitioner. But there is nothing impossible for a man of determination and iron-will. That Yogi who has taken the Kundalini to the Sahasrara is the real master of the forces of Nature. Generally Yogic students abandon their Sadhana on account of false satisfaction. They foolishly imagine that they have reached the goal, when they get some mystic experiences and powers. This is a mistake. Complete Asamprajnata Samadhi (Nirvikalpa Samadhi) alone can give final emancipation.

BRAHMARANDHRA

“Brahmarandhra” means the hole of Brahman. It is the dwelling house of the human soul.

This is also known as “Dasamadvara,” the tenth opening or the tenth door. The hollow place in the crown of the head known as anterior fontanelle in the new-born child is the Brahmarandhra. This is between the two parietal and occipital bones. This portion is very soft in a baby. When the child grows, it gets obliterated by the growth of the bones of the head. Brahma created the physical body and entered (Pravishat) the body to give illumination inside through this Brahmarandhra. In some of the Upanishads, it is stated like that. This is the most important part. It is very suitable for Nirguna Dhyana (abstract meditation). When the Yogi separates himself from the physical body at the time of death, this Brahmarandhra bursts open and Prana comes out through this opening (Kapala Moksha). “A hundred and one are the nerves of the heart. Of them one (Sushumna) has gone out piercing the head; going up through it, one attains immortality” (Kathopanishad).

SAHASRARA CHAKRA

Sahasrara Chakra is the abode of Lord Siva. This corresponds to Satya Loka. This is situated
at the crown of the head. When Kundalini is united with Lord Siva at the Sahasrara Chakra, the Yogi enjoys the Supreme Bliss, Parama Ananda. When Kundalini is taken to this centre, the Yogi attains the superconscious state and the Highest Knowledge. He becomes a Brahmavidvarishtha or a full-blown Jnani.

The word Sahasradala-Padma denotes that this Padma has 1000 petals. That is, one
thousand Yoga Nadis emanate from this centre. There are different opinions about the exact
number of petals. It is quite sufficient if you know that innumerable Nadis proceed from this centre.

As in the case of other Chakras, the vibrations that are made by the Yoga Nadis are represented by the Sanskrit letters.

All the 50 letters of the Sanskrit alphabet are repeated here again and again on all Yoga Nadis. This is a Sukshma centre. The corresponding centre in the physical body is in the brain. The term “Shat-Chakras” refers only to the chief six Chakras, viz., Muladhara, Svadhishthana, Manipura, Anahata, Vishuddha and Ajna. Above all these we have Sahasrara Chakra. This is the chief of all the Chakras. All the Chakras have their intimate connection with this centre. Hence this is not included as one among the Shat-Chakras. This is situated above all the Chakras

Only Yoga is not enough to attain this feat, Develop virtues like generosity, forgiveness and so forth. Mere Yogic Kriyas alone will not help you much. Do self-analysis and eradicate your faults and evil habits. Rectify your defects like selfishness, pride, jealousy, hatred, etc. Develop your heart. Share what you have with others. Do selfless service. Then alone you will get purity of mind.

Vishuddha Chakra is the stage where the conscious world ends, above this Chakra everything is beyond the physical world, it is Samadhi stage.

Ajna Chakra
In my Previous posts, I have given the general account about these beautiful, subtle, invisible, non material, nerve centres or energy centres present in the Astral body of each and every human being, One can visualize the Astral body like a key chain with three leaves cut out like a human body, one is your physical body which is visible and second is the Astral body and the third is called the causal body, pull them together it is one body, separate them you can see three.

The Sixth Chakra, the Ajna Chakra Fig A

The awakened Chakra has its petals upwards and the petals of a chakra at rest are downwards.

The two tube kind of things are actually Sushumna nadi, and Ida and Pingala join the Sushumna nadi here, though I have tried to show them like they are physical entity, but they are not physical entities.

The Mandala is Avyakta Ahankara Manas Tattwa otherwise called as Seat of Mind.
The Zodiac sign is Sagittarius.

The Mantra is AUM, Pronounce it as Ooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaammmmmmmm.
The Endocrine Glands connected are Pituitary gland, the master gland,The no of Petals are 2, which are 2 yoga nadis which appear like petals and the vibrations that are produced by these Nadis are represented by the Sanskrit letters:— Hang and Ksham, I have presented them in devanagiri script on each petal in Fig A. of this post. The space in this chakra is Round, and controls Sankalp and Vikalpa. The color of this Chakra is faint purple to white. The area of Knowledge is Super-Conscious.The Energy is called Kundalini, Hakini shakti, or just Shakti. The Deity for this Chakra is Sadashiva or Shambunada.Loka is Tapo Loka. (Indicates the birth of cosmos)Granthi Sthana- Rudra Granthi
Swami Sivananda Maharaj says:
The AJNA CHAKRA is situated in the Sushumna between the eyebrows. This is alsoknown as Trikuti. This is the seat of the mind. This Chakra has two petals and is of beautiful white colour. He who concentrates on this most excellent Chakra destroys all Karmas or actions of the past lives and becomes a Jivanmukta (living liberated sage). He gets all the eight major Siddhis and the thirty-two minor Siddhis.
The PDF document says:

Ajna Chakra is situated within the Sushumna Nadi and its corresponding centre in the
physical body is at the space between the two eye-brows. This is known as Trikuti. The presiding deity, Paramasiva (Shambhu), is in the form of Hamsa. There is Goddess Hakini (Sakti}. Pranava (Om) is the Bijakshara for this Chakra. This is the seat of the mind. There are two petals (Yoga Nadis) on each side of the lotus (Chakra) and the vibrations of these Nadis are represented by the Sanskrit letters:—Ham and Ksham. This is the Granthi Sthana (Rudra Granthi). The Chakra is of pure white colour or like that of the fullmoon (on the Purnima day). Bindu, Nada and Sakti are in this Chakra. This Chakra corresponds to Tapo-Loka. The corresponding centre in the physical body is at the Cavernous Plexus.

He who concentrates at this centre destroys all the Karmas of the past lives. The benefits that
are derived by meditation on this Chakra cannot be described in words. The practitioner becomes a Jivanmukta (liberated man while living). He acquires all the 8 major and 32 minor Siddhis. All Yogis and Jnanis too concentrate to this centre on the Bijakshara, Pranava!(OM). This is called Bhrumadya Drishti (gaze at the space between the two eye-brows).

EIGHT MAJOR SIDDHIS

An accomplished, Purnayogi in the path of Kundalini Yoga is in possession of eight major Siddhis, viz., Anima, Mahima, Laghima, Garima, Prapti, Prakamya, Vasitvam and Ishitvam.
1. Anima: The Yogi can become as minute as he pleases.
2. Mahima: This is the opposite of Anima. He can become as big as he likes. He can makehis body assume a very large size. He can fill up the whole universe. He can assume a ViratSvarupa.
3. Laghima: He can make his body as light as cotton or feather. Vayustambhanam is donethrough this Siddhi. In Jalastambhanam also the power is exercised to a very small degree. The body is rendered light by Plavini Pranayama. The Yogi produces a diminution of his specific gravity by swallowing large draughts of air. The Yogi travels in the sky with the help of this Siddhi. He can travel thousands of miles in a minute.
4. Garima: This is the opposite of Laghima. In this the Yogi acquires an increase of specificgravity. He can make the body as heavy as a mountain by swallowing draughts of air.
5. Prapti: The Yogi standing on the earth can touch the highest things. He can touch the sunor the moon or the sky. Through this Siddhi the Yogi attains his desired objects and supernatural powers. He acquires the power of predicting future events, the power of clairvoyance, clairaudience, telepathy, thought-reading, etc. He can understand the languages of the beasts and birds. He can understand unknown languages also. He can cure all diseases.
6. Prakamya: He can dive into the water and can come out at any time he likes. The lateTrilinga Swami of Benares used to live for six months underneath the Ganges. It is the process by which a Yogi makes himself invisible sometimes. By some writers it is defined to be the power of entering body of another (Parakaya Pravesh). Sri Sankara entered the body of Raja Amaruka of Benares. Tirumular in Southern India entered the body of a shepherd. Raja Vikramaditya also did this. It is also the power of keeping a youth-like appearance for any length of time. Raja Yayati had this power.
7. Vashitvam: This is the power of taming wild animals and bringing them under control. Itis the power of mesmerising persons by the exercise of will and of making them obedient to one’s own wishes and orders. It is the restraint of passions and emotions. Between Ajna and Shasrara Chakra there are other two Chakras names Soma and Manas Chakra, but they are minor, like this some other text says, there are total 144 Chakras. The main Chakras in any text are seven.
Vishuddha Chakra

In my Previous posts, I have given the general account about these beautiful, subtle, invisible, non material, nerve centres or energy centres present in the Astral body of each and every human being, One can visualize the Astral body like a key chain with three leaves cut out like a human body, one is your physical body which is visible and second is the Astral body and the third is called the causal body, pull them together it is one body, separate them you can see three. The Fifth Chakra, the Vishuddha Chakra Fig A

The two tube kind of things are actually Sushumna nadi, and Ida and Pingala are separate and pass away from the middle chakras, though I have tried to show them like they are physical entity, but it is not a physical entity.

The Mandala is Ether otherwise called as Akash Mandala.
The Zodiac sign is Gemini.

The Mantra is hamn or hang, Pronounce it as HAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaMmmmmmmNnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn it should sink in to the silence of Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.
The Endocrine Glands connected are Thyroid gland,The no of Petals are 16, which are 16 yoga nadis which appear like petals and the vibrations that are produced by these Nadis are represented by the Sanskrit letters:— Aang, Aaang, Eang, Eeang, Uang, Uuang, Riang, Riiang, Lring, Lriang, Aiang, Aiiang, Aong, Aoang, Aang, Ahang, I have presented them in devanagiri script on each petal in Fig A. of this post,The space in this chakra is Round, and controls Hearing,The color of this Chakra is smoky purple to blue,The area of Knowledge is Unconscious. The Energy is called Kundalini, Shakini Shakti, or just Shakti. The Deity for this Chakra is Maheshwara (Bindurupa).Loka is Janah Loka. ( Indicates the birth of cosmos)
Swami Sivananda Maharaj says:
The VISUDDHA CHAKRA is situated at the base of the throat with in the Sushumna. Its colour is smoky purple and has sixteen petals. Concentration on this Chakra enables the Yogi to attain the highest success. He does not perish even during the Pralaya (Great Deluge). He gets full knowledge of the four Vedas and becomes the knower of the three periods of time (past, present and future). He becomes eloquent, wise, enjoys peace of mind, and it is said that by his Yogic power he can move the three worlds.
In his Pdf document Kundalini Yoga says:

Vishuddha Chakra is situated within the Sushumna Nadi at the base of the throat, Kantha-Mula Sthana. This corresponds to Janar Loka. It is the centre of Akasa Tattva (ether element). The Tattva is of pure blue colour. Above this, all other Chakras belong to Manas Tattva.

The presiding deity is Sadasiva (Isvara Linga), and the Goddess is Shakini. From this centre emanate 16 Yoga Nadis which appear like the petals of a lotus. The vibrations that are produced by the Nadis are represented by the 16 vowels of Sanskrit, as given above. Akasa Mandal (the region of ether) is round in shape like the full moon. The Bija of Akasa Tattva Hang is in this centre. It is of white colour. This Chakra corresponds to Laryngeal plexus in the physical body.

The concentration on the Tattva of this Chakra is called Akasa Dharana. He who practises this Dharana will not perish even in Pralaya. He attains the highest success. He gets the full
knowledge of the four Vedas by meditating on this Chakra. He becomes a Trikala Jnani (who
knows the past, the present and the future).

And we already know that during dream state the Prana resides in the throat, and the possible reason why during dreaming state we (Mind) are able to move from Past to future events.

Aum NamaH Shivaya!

The Fourth Chakra, the Anahata Chakra, Fig A-

The two tube kind of things are actually Sushumna nadi, and Ida and Pingala are separate and pass away from the middle chakras, though I have tried to show them like they are physical entity, but it is not a physical entity.

The Mandala is Air otherwise called as Vayu Mandala.
The Zodiac sign is Libra.
The Mantra is Yamn or Yang, Pronounce it as YAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaMmmmmmmNnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn it should sink in to the silence of Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.
The Endocrine Glands connected are Thymus gland,The no of Petals are 12, which are 12 yoga nadis which appear like petals and the vibrations that are produced by these Nadis are represented by the Sanskrit letters:— Kang, Khang, gang, ghang, Nnang, Chang, Chhang, Jang, Jhang, Nanang, Tang, Thang, I have present them in devanagiri script on each petal in Fig A. of this post,The space in this chakra is like a Hexagonal, the seat of Love and controls touch,The color of this Chakra is Deep Red to Green,The area of Knowledge is Conscious. The Energy is called Kundalini, Kakini Shakti, or just Shakti. The Deity for this Chakra is Three eyed Lord Shiva (Tryambakeshwara).Loka is Mahar Loka. ( Stars and Planets, Abode of sags and saints)Granthi Sthana- Vishnu Granthi.

Swami Sivananda Maharaj says:
The ANAHATA CHAKRA is located in the Sushumna in the region of the heart. It is of
deep red colour and has twelve petals. The Anahata sound, the sound of Shabda-brahman, is heard at this centre. You can clearly hear this sound if you concentrate silently at this lotus. He who concentrates on this Chakra gets full control over air. He can fly in the air, enter the body of another and become prosperous. He becomes wise and does only noble deeds. He gets cosmic love and all other divine virtues.

In his Pdf document Kundalini Yoga says:
Anahata Chakra is situated in the Sushumna Nadi (Sukshma centre). It has control over the
heart. It corresponds to the Cardiac Plexus in the physical body. This corresponds to Mahar Loka.
The Chakra is of deep red colour. Within this Chakra there is a hexagonal space of smoke or deep black colour or the colour of collyrium (used for the eyes). This chakra is the centre of Vayu Mandal (region of air, Vayu Tattva). From here 12 Yoga Nadis emanate. The sound that is produced by each Nadi is represented by the following Sanskrit letters (Fig A)The Bijakshara Yamn, the Bija of Vayu, is here. The presiding deity is Isha (Rudra) and Devata is Kakini. In the Muladhara Chakra there is Svayambhu Linga and in Anahata Chakra we have Bana Linga.

Kalpa Vriksha, which gives all the desired things, is here. Anahata sound, the sound of Shabda Brahman, is heard at this centre. When you do Sirshasana for a long time, you can distinctly hear this sound. Vayu Tattva is full of Sattva Guna. Vishnu Granthi is in this Sthana. Some people when they hear the Anahata sounds, they might think "Your heart is making crazy sounds", He who meditates on this Chakra has full control over Vayu Tattva. He gets Bhuchari Siddhi, Khechari Siddhi, Kaya Siddhi, etc., (flying in air, entering the body of another). He gets cosmic love and all other divine Sattvic qualities. Do not think this way, If Human was supposed to fly he is supposed to have wings like birds, No, flying is a relative term, Body Mass, size, Gravity and Air buoyance etc.

Anahata sounds
Anahata sounds are the mystic sounds heard by the Yogin during his meditation. It is a sign
of the purification of Nadis. Some students can clearly hear it through any one of the ears and some by both the ears. There are loud as well as subtle sounds. From the loud, one will have to
contemplate on the subtle and from the subtle to the subtler. Beginners can hear the sound only when the ears are closed. Advanced students can concentrate on the Anahata sound even without closing the ears. Anahata sound is also termed Omkara Dhvani. They proceed from the Anahata centre of the Sushumna Nadi.

Sit in your usual Asana. Close the ears with the thumbs. Hear and minutely observe the
internal sound through the ears. The sound that you hear from within will make you deaf to all external sounds. Close the eyes also. In the beginning of your practice, you will hear many loud sounds. Later on they are heard in a mild way. The mind having at first concentrated itself on any one sound fixes firmly to that and is absorbed in it. The mind becoming insensible to the external impressions, becomes one with the sound as milk with water and then becomes rapidly absorbed in Chidakasa. Just as the bee drinking the honey alone does not care for the odour so also the Chitta, which is always absorbed in the inner sound, does not long for sensual objects, as it is bound by the sweet smell or Nada and has abandoned its flitting nature.

The sound proceeding from Pranava Nada, which is Brahman, is of the nature of effulgence.

The mind gets absorbed in it. The mind exists so long as there is sound, but with its cessation, there is that state termed Turiya. It is the supreme state. It is the Unmani state. The mind gets absorbed along with Prana by constant concentration upon Nada. The body appears to be a log of wood and it does not feel heat or cold, joy or sorrow. Different kinds of sounds proceed from the heart (Anahata sounds).
Nada that is heard through the ears is of ten kinds. The first is the sound ‘Chini’ (like thepronunciation of the word); the second is ‘Chini-chini’; the third is the sound of a bell; the fourth is that of a conch; the fifth is that of a lute; the sixth is the sound of cymbals; the seventh is the tune of a flute; the eighth is the voice of a drum (Bheri); the ninth is the sound of a double-drum (Mridanga); and the tenth is the sound of thunder.

You cannot expect the sound immediately after you close your ears. You should concentrateand keep your mind one-pointed. The particular sound that you hear today, you may not hear every day. But you will hear any one of the ten Anahata sounds.

The description given above is Laya through Nada, Anahata sound. In the same manner,
Laya can be effected by concentration at the tip of the nose (Nasikagra Drishti), at the space
between the two eyebrows (Bhrumadhya Drishti), meditation on the five Tattvas, on Soham
Mantra, "Aham Brahma Asmi", Tat Tvam Asi Mahavakyas and other methods also.

Manipura Chakra

In my Previous posts, I have given the general account about these beautiful, subtle, invisible, non material, nerve centres or energy centres present in the Astral body of each and every human being, One can visualize the Astral body like a key chain with three leaves cut out like a human body, one is your physical body which is visible and second is the Astral body and the third is called the causal body, pull them together it is one body, separate them you can see three.
The Third Chakra, the Manipura Chakra,
Fig A- Manipura Chakra- drawn by me. :-))

The two tube kind of things are actually Sushumna nadi, though I have tried to show them like they are physical entity, but it is not a physical entity, it is an Astral entity.
The Mandala is Fire otherwise called as Agni Mandala.
The Zodiac sign is Leo

The Mantra is Ramn or Rang,Pronounce it as RAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaMmmmmmmNnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn it should sink in to the silence of Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.
The Endocrine Glands connected are Pancreas. The no of Petals are 10, which are ten yoga nadis which appear like petals and the vibrations that are produced by the Nadis are represented by the Sanskrit letters:— Tang, Thang, Dang, Dhang, Nang, Pang, Phang, dnang, dhnang, Nnang, I have tried to show them on each petal in Fig A. of this post. The space in this chakra is like a Triangle, the seat of fire and controls Stomach and Liver,The color of this Chakra is Dark clouds to Yellow,The area of Knowledge is Unconscious. The Energy is called Kundalini, Lakini Shakti, or just Shakti. The Deity for this Chakra is Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi. Loka is Swah or Svar or Swarg Loka. (Our Solar system)

Swami Sivananda Maharaj says:
The MANIPURA CHAKRA is situated within the Sushumna in the region of the navel andis the third Chakra from the Muladhara. It is of the colour of dark clouds and has ten petals. It is the solar-plexus or “city of gems” because it is very brilliant. Meditation on this excellent Chakra bestows power to destroy and create worlds. The Goddess of Speech, Saraswati, ever dwells in the face of the Yogi. He gets knowledge of the hidden treasures and is freed from all kinds of diseases. He has no fear at all from fire. He can make gold and see Siddhas or Adepts clairvoyantly.

In his Pdf document he says:
The Yogi who concentrates at this Chakra gets Patala Siddhi, can acquire hidden treasures
and will be free from all diseases. He has no fear at all from Agni (fire). “Even if he is thrown into the burning fire, he remains alive without fear of death.”, (Gheranda Samhita).

During Meditation at this Chakra, many faces of your Ista devata or Gods will emerge in your inner picture screen, they are not illusions of your mind, these are as real as you and me.

Just carry on with the "AUM", Manta or your personal Mantra and generally one is not supposed to reveal your personal Mantra to anyone, I tried to search few sites which helps you to get one, it is basically your Istadevata, Planet in 12th house from your Atmakaraka in your Navamsa (D-9) chart gives you an idea of your IstaDevata ( Ista = Liking, Devata = God).

Some time back I did see that Deepak Chopra's official website also extends this service, all you have to tell them is your date of birth, but it is OK, just chant Aum.
Very physical manifestation of this Chakra functioning at a physical level is your hunger and digestion will regulate.

Atmakaraka is the planet with highest registered longitude in degrees.

Svashisthana Chakra
In my Previous posts, Chakras -I and Chakras - II, I have given the general account about these beautiful, subtle, invisible, non material, nerve centres or energy centres present in the Astral body of each and every human being, One can visualize like a key chain with three leaves cut like a human body, one is your physical body which is visible and second is the Astral body and the third is called the causal body, pull them together it is one body, separate them you will feel three. The second Chakra, the Svadhisthana Chakra, Fig A
The two tube kind of things are actually Sushumna nadi, though I have tried to show it like it a physical entity, but it is not a physical entity, it is a Astral entity

The Mandala is Water otherwise called as Jala Mandala.
The Zodiac sign is Cancer,
The Mantra is Vamn or Vang,Pronounce it as VAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaMmmmmmmNnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn it should sink in to the silence of Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn it should sink in to the silence of Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.
The Endocrine Glands connected are gonads. The no of Petals are 6, which are six yoga nadis which appear like petals and the vibrations that are produced by the Nadis are represented by the Sanskrit letters:— Bam, Bham, Mam, Yam, Ram, Lam, I have tried to show them on each petal in Fig A.The space in this chakra is like a crescent moon or form of a conch,The color of this Chakra is Blood red, like Vermilion,The area of Knowledge is Unconscious. The Energy is called Kundalini, Dakini Shakti, or just Shakti. The Deity for this Chakra is Lord Brahma.
Swami Sivananda Maharaj says:
The SVADHISHITHANA CHAKRA is located within the Sushumna at the root of thesexual organ. It has six petals and is pure blood-like red (vermilion) in colour. Concentration on this Chakra frees the Yogi from fear of water. He gets several other psychic powers, intuitional knowledge and freedom from the faults of the mind and the senses. He becomes an object of love and adoration to all beautiful goddesses, and recites all the Sastras unknown to him before. He becomes the conqueror of death and moves throughout the universe fearlessly. In his Pdf document he says:He who concentrates at this Chakra and meditates on the Devata has no fear of water. He has perfect control over the water element. He gets many psychic powers, intuitional knowledge and a perfect control over his senses. He has full knowledge of the astral entities. Kama (Sex), Krodha (Anger), Lobha (Lust for many things), Moha (Moha for a son or a wife) , Mada (A bull in a rodeo), Matsarya and other impure qualities are completely annihilated. The Yogi becomes the conqueror of death (Mrityunjaya). So the first Chakra gives Earth element, and the second Chakra gives Water element.

There is this site http://www.eclecticenergies.com/chakras/chakratest.php where you can answer few questions it tells you if your Chakra is Open and If open at what %, it is good way of finding out but I am not comfortable with the word Overactive, because nothing is overactive, the Chakra is supposed to be 100% open then only the Kundalini energy can flow freely towards the

There is another site http://www.chakraenergy.com/ here too you can test if your chakra is open or not.
Other Interesting sites are :
http://www.kheper.net/topics/chakras/chakras.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chakra
http://www.sacredcenters.com/chakras.html
http://www.healer.ch/Chakras-e.html

Basically all these sites deal with the natural effects due to these chakras but none of them actually deal with the supernatural effects from these chakras, like it is detailed by Shri Sivanada Maharaj, because when people who study a lot and almost understand everything, they also perform various Yoga Asanas and even after that they do not feel the ultimate effect due to these Chakras, but all the hard work doesn't go waste, the mere opening of Chakras extend all those effects which are detailed out in these sites, which are very natural and have nothing to do with the Kundalini Energy or the Serpentine power.

I know when a person reads all these the first impression is not to believe and if that person happens to be from westernised west (Because Easternized West is also there) then there is no doubt, he will ask a doctor, or a person who works in a morgue or who performs postmortems, did you ever see these things in a human body, and the answer is always NO, again the question to such a person is did you ever See a remote signal, and the answer is always NO. :-)) Yes we do not have physical mechanisms to measure many things, like no of taste buds, no of smell buds, quantum of sense of taste and smell, it is limited to the feeling of the person only, a person lacking this kind of sense can only tell If he can smell or not, Feeling with Chakras is also similar, only the person can tell if he feels something happening in his back or not a tingling sensation when these chakras are open and the kundalini energy, the serpentine power flows though it, and when it reaches the Shasrara chakra, it yet another feeling, but in initial sessions, the feeling subsides very fast, only after a long time, one can feel that it stays put, yes it definitely needs time and patience and lots of personal observations.

I am not sure If women also can get this attenuation like men, because when it comes to spirituality, Men are gifted and for women, it is always men who are the medium to attain that levels of spirituality, hence, in India it is given lots of value and importance that a women worship her husband with out guilt and doubt ( Called as Pati Vrata Dharma), it doesn't matter how her husband looks or what kind of character he has and how much he earns.

Well I know the modern liberated women would not like a single word I have written, but what I am talking about is for spiritual growth and ultimate liberation and not for a successful executive life.
One more point about these Chakras is many people have tried to de-mystify them by saying that they are just centres of nerves and if open they give a better life and they should be only 50% open, if they are open more then 50% then it is overactive etc hence the questionaire to see if they are open or not.
But all this does not go well with the purpose of Chakras and why they should be open and how one can check if they are open, there is a very subtle way to find out if they are full open or not, again for this purpose one has to go deep into your inner world. I would say this is beyond the scope of this level. :-
